Website Security and Maintenance

Website Security and Maintenace for WordPress Websites.

Website Security and Maintenance are extremely important when it comes to maintaining WordPress Websites. Hosting does provide some security to your website, but does not prevent against possible hacks.

WordPress is an open source Content Management System. The WordPress community does a great job in keeping WordPress secure from hackers and bots but WordPress is vulnerable to bot attacks and hacks from some hackers who post malicious content or links onto your website or simply bring your website down.

Themes and plugins are two ways that bots and hackers can gain access to your website. The other is through hosting vulnerabilities. For this reason it is really important to have security software installed and activated on your website to prevent attacks.

WordPress plugins and themes have multiple updates a month and it is important to be up to date with the latest plugin and theme updates to prevent any vulnerabilities. Alot of the time that WordPress core and plugins up date are for security reasons. It is for that reason that your plugins should be kept up to date.

I do not update Websites online without checking if the plugin update is working correctly offline first. This goes for themes and WordPress core as well.

If you take a Package below and your website is hacked then there will be no extra cost to fix or reload a backup version of the website. The chance of it being hacked with security software is extremely unlikely.

Process of Maintenance

Check website weekly for updates

  • Apply the update to the local backup of the website and check if the update doesnt affect the website
  • Go to the website and perform the update
  • Check the website is working correctly
  • Download a new copy of the backup to be used on the local server.

Failure to perform this process could bring your website down, so you shouldn’t attempt to update the website yourself.

I do update website plugins and themes when i make paid changes for clients or if they have taken an active SEO package, but your website will be vulnerable in between changes or SEO. SEO does not cover the security of the website.
